[[My attempts to write about this project]]
In the spring of 2024, I began creating a piece of writing with the intent of spilling 100 words for every photograph in the series, charting a final word count of around 160,000 words. I made it about 74,000 words into this endeavor before keeping the scope of what I had and hadn't talked about became unmanageable.
The intended output of this project would be either a long video essay, perhaps read in one sitting, with each photograph being on-screen for the amount of time it took to read a block of text. Yes, for the sake of organization and finding one small piece of "something to hold onto" (like a bus stop), I restricted myself to *no more than* 100 words per photograph.
I fear that loosing the entire piece of writing in one go, the length of some short novels, would obfuscate any real connection with any piece of the writing. It is non-linear and chaotic, so this strange website form made far more sense to me. As I move bits and pieces of the writing into this website, I will attach them in the listed original order (with a quick executive summary) below.
- [[Preamble]] — A beginning that is not quite a beginning
- [[A Brief Diversion on Image Generation and Social Media]]
- [[Viewing and Consuming the City]]
- [[Justifying, Not Justifying (River Metaphor)]] — One metaphorical understanding for this thought-cannibalizing-thought project, trying to explain without justifying- is it possible? Probably not.
- [[A quick apology for the organization of this project]]
- [[My Relationship with Instagram]] — Photographers get grumpy about Instagram and still use it
- [[An infinitely loose and slackening frame of reference]] — Trying to unwind the relationship between Instagram and my attention span for making and sharing images.
- [[The Rabbit in the Dark Forest]] — Attempting to write about work is like backing a thought into a corner, but the thought always runs off.
- [[No but really, Why did you do this]]
- [[Some Cities are More Unique than Others]]
- [[This is Not a Shooting Diary]]
